Go to the hospital right away.
It's imperative if the dog bite has broken skin that you go to the hospital to receive medical care. You want to make sure there are no infections from the wounds. This is even more important if you need stitches or plastic surgery. The hospital staff should make a determination as to the severity of the injury and explain to you your options. Taking a picture of the injury is a good idea if the hospital does not.
While at the hospital, you should fill out an animal bite report. This form should be given to you at the hospital. They will send that on to the Department of Health, who will contact the owner to have the dog quarantined and checked for rabies. Any domestic animal that has bitten a human will be quarantined for 10 days. The dog owner will need to provide proof of vaccination for rabies.
